Capella Education Q2 Profit Down - Quick Facts
(RTTNews) - Capella Education Company (CPLA), a provider of online post-secondary education, primarily through its unit Capella University, Tuesday reported a decrease in the net income for the second quarter, reflecting lower revenues.
Net income attributable to Capella Education Company for the three-month period was $10.4 million or $0.83 per share, compared with $11.4 million or $0.85 per share during the corresponding quarter last year.
On average, ten analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected earnings per share of $0.66 for the second quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude one-time items.
Revenues generated for the period decreased 2.3 percent to $103.7 million from $106.2 million during the same quarter last year. Analysts estimated the company to report revenues of $102.6 million.
Capella University total active enrollment decreased 0.9 percent to 36,003 and new enrollment, calculated at census date, increased by 12.7 percent from second quarter 2012.
For the third quarter, new enrollment growth is expected to decrease in the mid-single digit percentage range compared to particularly strong new enrollment performance during the third quarter last year, the company said. Total enrollment is expected to decline by about 2 to 4 percent and consolidated revenue is expected to be flat to up 1 percent compared with corresponding quarter last year.
