Calpine Q3 Profit Climbs - Quick Facts

(RTTNews) - Calpine Corp. (CPN), an utility company with natural gas-fired and geothermal power plants, reported a surge in third-quarter net income attributable to the company to $614 million, or $1.52 a share, from $306 million, or $0.70 a share, last year, due mainly to a gain on the previously referenced asset sale, partially offset by higher debt extinguishment costs and impairment losses. Net income, as adjusted, for the third quarter of 2014 was $306 million.

Operating Revenues for the quarter rose by 6.7% year-over-year to $2.19 billion from $2.05 billion.

On average, 6 analysts polled by Thomson-Reuters estimated the company's profit to be $0.55 on revenues of $1.85 billion for the quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude one-time items.
