Cadence Promotes 4 Senior Leaders and Appoints Controller and HR Chief

SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 16, 2005--Cadence Design Systems, Inc. (NYSE:CDN) (Nasdaq:CDN) today announced the promotions of four senior leaders to corporate vice president. Promoted were Tom Cooley, Jim Cowie, Wei-Jin Dai and Toshifumi Kaneko. Chip Burczak was appointed corporate vice president and controller, and Debi Muchow was named corporate vice president of Global Human Resources.

Cooley, corporate vice president of North America sales, joined Cadence in 1995 and drove the formation of the company's original enterprise account program. In addition to his current responsibilities as head of North America sales, Cooley will assume increased responsibility for sales strategic planning and driving greater connections between the field, and research, development and marketing organizations. Cooley is based in Plano, Texas, and reports to Kevin Bushby, executive vice president, Worldwide Field Operations.
Dai, corporate vice president of R&D, joined Cadence in 2001 when the company acquired Silicon Perspective Corp., which Dai co-founded in 1996. At Cadence, Dai delivered and deployed the Encounter digital IC solution. In his new role, Dai will oversee the digital IC product line, including First Encounter(TM) GPS, Nano Encounter(TM), CeltIC(R) and SoC Encounter(TM) GPS. He is based in San Jose and reports to Jim Miller, senior vice president, Development.
Cowie is corporate vice president, associate general counsel and assistant secretary, having served on the company's legal team since 2000. At Cadence, he has provided legal guidance for Cadence acquisitions and spinoffs, including the acquisitions of Verisity Ltd., Simplex Solutions, Inc. and Silicon Perspective Corp., as well as other high-level business transactions. In his new role, he will provide legal counsel for corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions, strategic transactions and alliances. Cowie, who is based in San Jose, reports to Smith McKeithen, senior vice president, general counsel and secretary.
Kaneko, corporate vice president of the Account Sales Division in Japan, joined Cadence in 2003 and has driven such programs as the local quality initiative, product launches and the Cadence Users' Meetings in Japan. Before joining Cadence, Kaneko worked at Innotech Corp., Cadence's longtime distributor in Japan. With his promotion, Kaneko will play a larger role in field operations and direct account and global sales. He reports to Ryoichi Kawashima, president of Cadence Design Systems, Japan.
Burczak was named corporate controller. Reporting to Chief Financial Officer Bill Porter, he assumes responsibility for operational finance activities worldwide. He comes to Cadence with over 24 years of semiconductor industry experience, including assignments in engineering, operations, and finance, most recently as Enterprise Platforms Group Controller with Intel Corp.
Muchow reports to Fister and is responsible for all global human resource functions, as well as Cadence University. She comes to Cadence with 18 years of human resource and organization development experience, most recently as an independent consultant, and before that as HR Director for Research and Development with Intel Corp.
