Cablevision Adds CNN HD to Leading High-Defintion Lineup, Network Is 42nd High-Definition Service Available to iO(R) TV Digital Cable Customers at No Additional Charge

BETHPAGE, N.Y., and ATLANTA, Nov. 7 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Cablevision Systems Corp. and CNN Worldwide, today announced the addition of CNN HD to Cablevision's high-definition programming line-up, the 42nd high- definition programming service available to Cablevision's more than 800,000 iO(R) TV customers with HD televisions and set-top boxes at no additional charge. CNN HD is available across Cablevision's entire service area on iO TV channel 725.

"We are pleased to add CNN HD to our high-definition line-up, which has nearly doubled in size over the last year," said John Trierweiler, Cablevision's senior vice president of product management. "More and better HD programming, without the extra fees our competitors charge customers to see HD, is a defining element of our iO TV digital cable service, and our robust fiber optic network allows Cablevision to offer this expanding array of high- definition programming to our more than 800,000 HD customers."

"We are pleased to partner with Cablevision to further expand their HDTV package and enhance their customers' viewing experience with the addition of CNN's top-rated award-winning programming," said Coleman Breland, executive vice president, sales and marketing, Turner Network Sales (TNS).

CNN HD stands as a separate high-definition signal offering a programming line-up identical to the CNN/U.S. channel broadcast in the standard-definition format. As part of its initial entry into high-definition television, CNN produces all of its New York-based programs, select documentaries and special events, including for the first time presidential debates, in high definition. The Nevada Democratic debate and the CNN/YouTube Republican debate air in high definition in November. CNN Worldwide's high-definition plans go beyond upgrades of studios and production centers and include a significant investment in equipment in the field to ensure that its journalists can gather news in high definition. Additional programs produced in high definition will include American Morning, CNN's new 8 p.m. program anchored by Campbell Brown, Lou Dobbs Tonight, Anderson Cooper 360º, Lou Dobbs Weekend, Your $$$$$ and Open House.

Unlike other providers, Cablevision offers subscribers HD-capable converter boxes at no additional cost over the standard box rental fee and does not charge any extra fees to receive HD programming. If a customer receives the standard-definition feed of a channel as part of their programming package, and there is an HD feed available through iO TV, they receive that format as well. Cablevision was also the first multi-channel television provider in the nation to offer high-definition video on demand (VOD), and more than 30 continually refreshed HD VOD titles are available anytime for $4.95 each, the same price as their standard definition movies, which includes full control over the viewing experience with the ability to pause, fast-forward and rewind. A high definition cable box and HD-ready television set are required to view high definition programming.

With more than 2.5 million iO customers, more than 81 percent of Cablevision's cable customers are iO digital cable customers, the highest digital penetration in the nation. iO offers customers access to more than 260 channels, including 50 premium movie channels, 48 channels of commercial- free digital music, more than 1,800 titles available on demand at all times, an interactive programming guide, 42 high-definition programming services and groundbreaking interactive television applications including News 12 Interactive, and subscription games packages.
