Building for Brazil’s Future

With one of the world’s fastest growing economies, Brazil has an increased demand for power. Helping to meet this need, GE (NYSE: GE) is building a new, US$10 million facility in Petropolis, dedicated to servicing the aeroderivative and oil and gas sectors in Latin America. A groundbreaking ceremony for the GE Brazil Aeroderivative Gas Turbine Service Center is scheduled for October 8, 2010, with the dedication ceremony planned for the first quarter of 2011.

"The new facility will effectively cut service time in half, eliminating costly shipping costs and shortening delivery times. Faster service time to market means less down time for our customers, resulting in more revenue from their running machines. It also provides GE with the necessary space for anticipated future growth in other markets.”

As the first dedicated facility for servicing the aeroderivative fleet in Brazil, GE’s Brazil Service Center will be located in the city of Petropolis, in the state of Rio de Janeiro, on 1.9 acres of land and will service natural gas, liquid fuel, biofuels and sugarcane-based ethanol-fired machines. The 2,044 square-meter building will provide the following benefits:

• Services and logistics processes;
• In-country shop and component repair capabilities as applicable (LM2500/LM6000);
• Complex assembly support;
• 100+ unit capability in five years; and
• Addresses customer localization requirements—engine and component repairs and future localized equipment content.

The new facility will provide Level 4 service, including full module and component repair, for the power generation industry, as well as for the country’s growing oil and gas sector.
