Borland(R) Delphi(R) 2006 and C++Builder(R) 2006 Deliver Key New Features to Speed Microsoft(R) Windows(R) and .NET Application Delivery

Enhanced Development Environments Offered as Part of Borland Developer Studio, Borland's Multi-Language Developer Environment for Microsoft Windows and .NET

Borland Software Corporation (NASDAQ:BORL), the global leader forSoftware Delivery Optimization(TM), today announced new versions ofits Borland(R) Delphi(R) and Borland C++Builder(R) rapid applicationdevelopment (RAD) environments, previously codenamed "DeXter." Withpowerful new productivity and performance-boosting capabilities,Borland Delphi 2006 and C++Builder 2006 -- in addition to a newC#Builder(R) 2006 -- are designed to enable software teams toeliminate tedious development tasks so they can quickly andcost-effectively deliver enterprise-class Windows applications.

Delphi 2006, C++Builder 2006, and C#Builder 2006 are now offeredtogether as part of Borland Developer Studio -- Borland'smulti-language developer environment for Microsoft(R) Windows(R) and.NET applications. It is the only integrated development environment(IDE) that includes support for Delphi (both Windows and .NET), C, C++and C# applications within a single environment. Customers purchasingany of these individual products get full support for all fourlanguages at no additional cost, with the flexibility to customizelanguage-specific capabilities.

"Developers are at the core of Borland's Software DeliveryOptimization vision, sitting at the heart of the applicationlifecycle," said Boz Elloy, senior vice president of products,Borland. "We are committed to continuing to serve Delphi, C++ and C#developers. Our R&D team has listened to these loyal communities andresponded with an intense focus on quality and productivity, addingkey new IDE productivity enhancements into a fully integrated suite ofapplication lifecycle management (ALM) tools including integratedchange management, modeling and rapid application designcapabilities."

Delphi 2006: The Ultimate Force-Multiplier

Delphi 2006 is designed to help development teams, regardless oftheir size, gain competitive advantage by maximizing both individualand team productivity. New advancements in Delphi 2006 such as a livetemplates system, advanced re-factorings that automate source codechanges and seamless integration with Borland ALM tools -- combinedwith higher performance and quality enhancements -- help reduce thetime and cost of building, managing, maintaining and extending bothWindows and .NET applications.

Delphi users will also be able to speed development with supportfor reverse engineering, rapid prototyping, and advanced IDEintegration with UML modeling, requirements management, versioncontrol, bug tracking, and team collaboration. With support for theMicrosoft(R) .NET Framework, ASP.NET, VCL.NET, VCL, and Win32(R) SDKs,Delphi 2006 is designed to give teams the right tools for virtuallyany job. Additionally, because Delphi supports both Win32 and .NET,customers can continue to develop and maintain existing Win32applications while simplifying the path to the Microsoft .NETframework and next-generation Windows applications.

"Delphi 2006 is a pleasure to use," said Peter Morris, managingdirector, Air Software Ltd, a software development and consultancycompany based in the UK. "Some of the new features are simple and easyto use, yet I wonder how I ever got by without them. We areparticularly excited by the new additions introduced in the ECO(TM)III framework. State diagrams are such a powerful addition to theframework, and the new reusable ECO package support is going to makeit possible for me to reuse parts of models across many differenttypes of applications -- a real saver in terms of both time andmoney."

Borland's unique enterprise framework in Delphi 2006, ECO III,provides valuable enterprise application services such asobject-relational mapping and transparent object persistence, savingdevelopers from the complexity and tedium of building and maintainingtheir own custom services.

ECO III also helps make design-driven development a reality withits model-powered framework, especially useful when building WebServices, ASP.NET, and Windows Form-based database applications.Model-powered applications can be efficiently created using the newECO Synchronization Server, offering multiple synchronized objectcaches for increased scalability and performance. Also new in ECO III,developers can design robust enterprise applications at thestate-diagram level, allowing teams to focus on business-centricdesign, not low-level application "plumbing."

More information on significant Delphi 2006 feature enhancementsfollows:

-- New IDE productivity features -- The "Live Templates" system enables users to tab through fields and insert points of any template, with an added "Smart Block" completion feature that anticipates and adds block closures as you type, and a new editor "Change Bar" that indicates modified lines and saved session modified lines.

-- Enhanced visual component library (VCL) -- The upgraded VCL of Delphi 2006 provides easy graphical user interface (GUI) development with a large selection of GUI components. New "Live Designer" guidelines enable users to drag lines, margins, padding, with text-based alignment, and a new Flow Panel and Grid Panel offering HTML- and Table-style form layouts.

-- Extended IDE / ALM Integration -- Delphi 2006 customers can take control of the development lifecycle process by leveraging integration with leading Borland ALM products including StarTeam(R) software change and configuration management, Together(R) modeling, and CaliberRM(TM) requirements management solutions.

C++Builder 2006: Support for Mission-Critical C++ Development

As part of the Borland Developer Studio, Borland has updated andrefined its popular C++Builder IDE with the latest RAD and ALMfeatures for mission-critical C/C++ development. This major newupgrade gives C++ developers many of the same features that Delphi,Java and non-Windows C++ teams have enjoyed in recent years, and muchmore. C++Builder 2006 provides new C/C++ build configuration andproject management capabilities that provide the flexibility and powerto easily organize multiple build settings, as well as new"what-you-see-is-what-you-get" (WYSIWYG) Web design and applicationdevelopment capabilities.

In addition, C++Builder 2006 includes leading-edge IDEproductivity features that give customers virtually the same IDEproductivity gains offered in Delphi 2006, such as a new codetemplates system, history manager, C++ structure pane and improveddatabase providers to simplify application data access. Other keybenefits of C++Builder 2006 include the following:

-- Updated visual component library (VCL) -- Enables C++ customers to leverage the same vast collection of re-usable third-party VCL components enjoyed by Delphi developers.

-- Enhanced IDE / ALM integration -- Delivers complete IDE integration with Borland's leading ALM tools including support for version control, requirements management, bug tracking, and team collaboration.

-- Complete Windows solution -- Provides complete RAD support for C#, Delphi Win32 and Delphi .NET, in addition to C++, as part of Borland Developer Studio.

C#Builder 2006: The Best Kept Secret in the .NET Developer'sToolbox

C#Builder 2006, also part of Borland Developer Studio, brings trueenterprise development capabilities to .NET, and is particularly wellsuited for development managers and project leads that need to doenterprise development on the .NET platform or manage and maintain C#projects, especially those transitioning from Java / J2EE and C++projects to C#. By providing an enterprise framework (ECO III) withcapabilities familiar to J2EE programmers, like object-relationalmapping, persistence, UML modeling, transactions, and ALM support, development and transition complexities are significantly mitigated.C# users can design applications at the state-diagram level, helpingeliminate time-consuming, low-level application work.

Integration with Borland's Together modeling solution, whichincludes two-way LiveSource(R) functionality, enables customers toreverse-engineer code to ease maintainability and help to ensure codeand models are always in sync. C#Builder 2006 also enables C#developers to optimize enterprise .NET development with integratedaudits and metrics, requirements management, and source codemanagement tools.
