Bloomberg: Google To Show Tweets In Search Results
(RTTNews) - Social networking service Twitter, Inc. (TWTR), which went public in November 2013, has once again struck a deal with search giant Google, Inc. (GOOG, GOOGL) to enable the display of tweets in the Google search results, according to a Bloomberg report on Wednesday.
Twitter and Google had a similar deal running for two years between 2009 and 2011, but Twitter was not keen to renew the deal in order to keep more control over Twitter's content.
Twitter later struck deals to provide data to Microsoft Corp.'s (MSFT) Bing search service and Yahoo! Inc. (YHOO).
The new deal will now see the micro-blogging site's 140-character updates becoming more searchable and visible in Google search results, starting sometime later in the first half of this year.
The half-billion daily tweets posted by nearly 284 million microbloggers on Twitter will be displayed under Google's search results as soon as they are posted.
Google previously had to crawl Twitter's site for the information, which will now come automatically from Twitter, the report said.
The move will enable Twitter to generate more advertising revenue as the Tweets will now be seen by a larger audience of non-Twitter users.
