Barrick begins Phase 3 drilling at Pueblo Grande project in Dominican Republic

Barrick Gold (NYSE: GOLD) (TSX: ABX) has begun the next phase of drilling at the Pueblo Grande project located next to its Pueblo Viejo gold mine in the Dominican Republic. The drilling is part of an earn-in agreement with Canada’s Precipitate Gold (TSXV: PRG), the project owner.The Phase 3 program will focus on high-priority targets identified within the Pueblo Grande Norte and Pueblo Grande Sur zones. To date, Barrick has identified two early-stage targets at Norte, as well as several gold-in-soil anomalies throughout parts of the Sur zone.The two zones are located to the west and southeast of the Pueblo Viejo mine site respectively. The gold-silver mine, approximately 100 km northwest of the capital city of Santo Domingo, represents one of the largest gold producers in Latin America.Previous drilling at Pueblo Grande Norte saw three of the four holes completed by Barrick encountering permeable volcanic lithologies affected by high-sulphidation type alteration, similar to those observed at its Pueblo Viejo mine. The Phase 3 drilling is designed to follow up on those results.At Pueblo Grande Sur, the gold miner has mobilized a drill rig to test a blind target associated with chargeability anomalies identified below a limestone and sedimentary rock sequence. Jeffrey Wilson, Precipitate’s CEO, said in a news release Wednesday that “the drill program is designed to test for postulated high-sulphidation epithermal-style gold mineralization concealed at relatively shallow depths to 250 metres, related to northeast trending structures.”In late 2024, Barrick announced that it would more than double its expenditure commitment on the 71 sq. km property.
