Aura Systems’ VIPER Used on Coast Guard Drug Bust
Aura Systems Inc. (OTC: AUSI) announced today that a dual VIPER system provided the electric power for the 45-foot Response Boat-Medium ("RB-M”) during its first major drug interdiction on January 30, 2011 in the Caribbean near Puerto Rico. The RB-M crew of "Station San Juan” detained two Dominicans, and recovered two suitcases of cocaine from the water.
As reported on February 22, 2011, to date Aura has delivered dual VIPER power solutions for all of the 48 RB-M patrol boats now in operation and has received the next release for an additional 57 boats. This release is part of a multi-year, Coast Guard contract requiring the delivery of up to 250 RB-M patrol boats.
Each boat has two 8.5Kw VIPER systems that provide all of the AC and DC power as well as replacing the alternator. Each VIPER system supplies 8,500 watts of continuous power/9,000 watts of peak power at engine idle.
"The 45-foot RB-M has continued to exceed all of our expectations,” said Senior Chief Petty Officer Robert Pump, Station San Juan officer-in-charge. "This interdiction is one more example of the amount of utility that was designed into this boat. The designers and builders should be proud that their efforts have resulted in an outstanding multi-mission platform that will capably safeguard our maritime domain.”
Mr. Melvin Gagerman, Aura's CEO, said, "Aura is very pleased to be part of the U.S.C.G RB-M patrol boat program. This is one more example where our VIPER mobile power solution is used to help safeguard our nation. The AuraGen VIPER has been supporting our troops in both Afghanistan and Iraq since shortly after 9/11.”
