AOL Reportedly Planning To Close Gaming Site Joystiq
(RTTNews) - AOL Inc. (AOL) is likely to shutter its primary video game site Joystiq, part of an extensive house-cleaning of its underperforming content properties that is taking place over the next weeks, Re/Code reported, citing numerous sources.
Joystiq was founded in 2004 as an extension of Engadget and as part of Weblogs, which AOL bought in 2005.
More content closures are coming, and AOL is also restructuring its sales organization, Re/Code quoted the sources as saying.
"Sources tell Joystiq that the staff is aware of the closure, but corporate hasn't officially told them, so they are unable to acknowledge anything out of concern that it will cause immediate shutdown. We've reached out for more information. We will update, as we always have, when we know more," Joystiq said in a post.
Joystiq seems to have about a dozen staffers.
