American Science and Engineering, Inc. to Discuss Innovative Cargo Screening Techniques at Maritime Homeland Security Summit
American Science and Engineering, Inc. (AS&E®)
(NASDAQ: ASEI), a leader in X-ray detection technology, announced today
that it will present a cargo inspection discussion and participate in a
product tour at the 6th Annual Maritime
Homeland Security Summit, sponsored by the Institute for Defense and
Government Advancement (IDGA), to be held March 31st
to April 2nd at the Kiawah Island Resort in
Charleston, South Carolina.
At the Summit, AS&E’s Vice President of
U.S. Government Sales, John Chrisos, will discuss "New
cargo inspection techniques to improve scanning efficiency, detection
and deterrence” in a presentation to be held
Wednesday, April 2nd at 1:55 p.m.
In addition, port security officials will demonstrate AS&E’s
OmniView Gantry cargo inspection system as part of the Summit’s
Tour and Special Exclusive Briefing at the Port of Charleston on Monday
March 31st. The Port of Charleston, considered
one of the busiest (by cargo Dollar value) and most productive ports in
the United States, utilizes the OmniView Gantry to inspect high-risk
containers for explosive threats and contraband. The system’s
high penetration capability enables the port to inspect very dense and
complex cargo while providing a rapid cycle-time for inspection.
"AS&E is very pleased to have an active role in an important port
security event such as the Maritime Homeland Security Summit,”
said AS&E’s John Chrisos. "We
are honored to discuss and demonstrate the best practices and strategies
for safe, efficient containerized cargo inspection to secure our nations
ports."
OmniView™ Gantry Cargo Inspection System
The OmniView Gantry System provides 6 MeV high-energy transmission
inspection for high penetration into inspected objects —
up to 14 inches (350 mm) of steel — yet the
system does not require an exterior building or heavy shielding. The
OmniView Gantry System’s scanning platform
operates by moving on rails past stationary vehicles and cargo. The
system is bi-directional allowing for a high throughput of approximately
2 trucks per scan, 24 trucks per hour.
