(RTTNews) - Diversified healthcare benefits company Aetna Inc. (AET) said it has earned $368.9 million, or $1.00 per share of GAAP net income, compared with last year's $190.1 million, or $0.56 per share. The latest quarter's net income includes $0.25 per share of transaction, integration-related and restructuring costs and a $0.10 per share charge for changes in our life insurance claim payment practices, partially offset by $0.01 per share of net realized capital gains, the company noted.

Excluding items, operating earnings totaled $495.4 million, or $1.34 per share in the recent quarter. On average, 17 analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected earnings per share of $1.36 for the quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude one-time items.

During the quarter, the firm clocked operating revenues of $13.13 billion, up 47% from the prior-year figure of $9.0 billion. Analysts estimated revenues of $13.14 billion for the quarter.
