AEG Power Solutions Shows Efficient, Flexible Protect Blue UPS at DatacenterDynamics London
At the DatacenterDynamics (DCD) conference today and tomorrow in London, AEG Power Solutions (FWB:3W9) is displaying its latest Protect Blue UPS system, designed specifically for large data centres and offering protection of 250kVA to 4MVA. Protect Blue provides efficiency of up to 96%, reducing total cost of ownership (TCO), and saving money for data centre operators, and is ideally suited to cloud and hybrid IT.

AEG Power Solutions has developed a flexible, customer-centric approach to UPS for data centres, built around Protect Blue. This enables it to deliver a highly customized solution to meet any customer requirements, with Protect Blue’s modular architecture providing up to 16 250kVA blocks in parallel.
This high efficiency and the power quality of the output lead to 41% energy cost savings which significantly reduce total cost of ownership (TCO). Protect Blue also provides a flexible range of configuration options, and is easy to design into data centre systems.
"We chose to propose Protect Blue and its level 3 technology as the UPS for the Wigner Research Centre in Budapest new 1,200m2 data centre,” said Balázs Gál, managing director at EXTOR Elektronikai Kft. "The reasons for our choice were Protect Blue’s excellent efficiency, helped by its eco and idle modes, and its potential to be used in the future with solar power.”
"Protect Blue is a durable, easy to maintain UPS solution that optimizes total cost of ownership and reduces operator intervention,” said Artur Faust, Product Manager 3-phase UPS, Data & IT Solutions, AEG Power Solutions.
Protect Blue is transformer-less, and uses the latest 3 level IGBT technology with a bi-directional IGBT rectifier for connection to smart/micro grids, making it highly compatible with all sources of renewable energy. The UPS offers outstanding double efficiency during the conversion of power from AC to DC and back again to AC when running off-line, and maintains a best in class standard for input power factor of greater than 0.99 and input THDi (Total Harmonic Distortion) of less than 3%.
As well as Protect Blue, AEG Power Solutions will also be introducing its new Fluxpower range of UPS systems operating in the 10kVA to 800kVA range. The Fluxpower range provides a cost-effective alternative for small and medium data centres, combining low input THDi of less than 3% with an input power factor within 1% of unity.
At DCD London, AEG Power Solutions will be giving a presentation entitled ‘Advanced UPS systems for Cloud and Hybrid IT Meet Next Generation Requirements Today’, which describes how the latest technologies used in Protect Blue can help improve power utilization and efficiency. The presentation will be held in the ICC London ExCeL on Thursday 21st at 12:40 pm.
