Accenture Announces Winners of Scholarships that Help Junior and Community College Students Advance to Four-Year Institutions
Accenture (NYSE: ACN) today announced the first 20 winners of its Junior
and Community College Scholarship awards, which the company established
earlier this year to support junior and community college students
planning to enter bachelor’s degree programs.
The Accenture Junior and Community College Scholarship Fund is part of
Accenture’s commitment to providing greater
access to higher education and developing a more competitive U.S.
workforce.
Winners will receive a $5,000 scholarship for the coming school year and
will be eligible for an additional $5,000 for one additional year or
until a bachelor’s degree is earned. The
company plans to award the scholarships annually.
"Junior and community colleges give students a
competitive edge and better prepare them for, and encourage, continued
education,” said William D. Green, Accenture’s
chairman and CEO and himself a junior college graduate. "The
future of our country depends on an educated workforce, and I am proud
of Accenture’s commitment to support
outstanding junior and community college students. I am living proof
that time spent at one of these colleges can change lives, and I urge
business leaders and government to join in our efforts to support junior
and community colleges.”
Accenture received more than 160 scholarship applications. To be
eligible, students must be enrolled in a full-time undergraduate course
at an accredited two-year junior or community college; plan to transfer
to an accredited four-year college or university to pursue a
baccalaureate degree; and have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a
4.0 scale (or its equivalent). Selection criteria include academic
record, demonstrated leadership, goals and aspirations, participation in
school and community activities, and work experience. The scholarship
fund is being administered by Scholarship America, the nation’s
largest nonprofit, private-sector scholarship and educational support
organization.
