85 Houston Area High School Seniors Honored With Prestigious RMHC® US Scholarships At Celebratory Luncheon Events
HOUSTON, May 22, 2017 /PRNewswire/ --
WHAT:
In May, 2017, Ronald McDonald House Charities® (RMHC®) of Greater Houston/Galveston, along with the McDonald's Owner/Operators Association of Greater Houston (MOAGH), awarded 85 high school seniors with prestigious RMHC® US Scholarships for their outstanding community involvement and academic performance. Each student received a $2,000 scholarship and a Kindle Fire tablet at a celebratory luncheon.
Three luncheons were held: RMHC®/Hispanic American Commitment to Educational Resources (HACER®) recognizing students of Hispanic heritage; RMHC®/Asian-Pacific American Students Increasing Achievement (ASIA) recognizing high school seniors of Asian Pacific Heritage and RMHC® Scholars recognizing high school seniors of all heritages; and RMHC®/African-American Future Achievers (AAFA®) recognizing students of African-American heritage.
"Year after year, we're delighted to provide financial assistance to high school seniors who are continuing their education," said Mary Redmond, President, RMHC® of Greater Houston/Galveston and local McDonald's Owner/Operator. "It's extremely rewarding to watch each and every student walk across the stage to receive their scholarship and know that in a few short weeks they will graduate high school, and this scholarship will help send them to college."
"As local business people, we are committed to supporting the communities we live and work in," said Matthew Kades, President of the McDonald's Owner/Operators Association of Greater Houston. "These families are our neighbors, and these students are our children's classmates. Each year we're excited to celebrate their accomplishments at these events, but we're even more thrilled to help support the next step in their education."
Every year, RMHC® of Greater Houston/Galveston and MOAGH distribute nearly $200,000 in scholarships to area high school students. To date, RMHC® has granted more than $48 million in scholarships to students in the United States and more than $3 million to students in the Greater Houston area.
