2018 USA International Ballet Competition offers USA IBC Dance School June 10-23 in Jackson, MS
JACKSON, Miss., Jan. 22, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- For the 11th time since it began in 1979, the 2018 USA International Ballet Competition will offer a Dance School for pre-professional ballet students June 10-23 in Jackson, Mississippi.
Ballet students ages 12 to 20 are invited to apply online at www.usaibc.com/study for the two-week intensive to be taught by an international faculty. Students must have a minimum of four years of ballet, including one year of pointe for girls, and submit a video audition. The curriculum includes ballet, contemporary, pointe, variations, pas de deux, repertoire, jazz, and special master class/lecture-demo opportunities.
Classes will be held in the state-of-the-art dance studios of Bitsy Irby Visual Arts and Dance Center at Belhaven University in Jackson. The faculty members' combined experience encompasses American Ballet Theatre, Alvin Ailey, New York City Ballet, Kirov Ballet, Paris Opera Ballet, St. Petersburg State Ballet and the Royal Danish Ballet.
Faculty for the 2018 school include: Charles Askegard, Petrusjka Broholm, Carlos Dos Santos, Zhanna Dubrovskaya, Fabrice Herrault, Maria Konrad, Svetlana Osiyeva, Rhodie Jorgenson and Marcus Alford. In choosing the instructors Director David Keary revisited the original mission of the dance school "to bring together leading teachers to create an international forum for the exchange of ideas, concepts and techniques."
In addition to morning and afternoon classes, students will attend nightly performances by ballet's rising stars from around the world. At least 26 nations are represented among the dancers who have applied to compete in Jackson in June.
"Seeing competitors perform is the crown jewel of attending the Dance School," Keary said. "It is enthralling, it's uplifting, and it gives students an idea of the level of commitment it takes to dance professionally."
Students will have other opportunities that may include master classes taught by Ashley Wheater, artistic director of the Joffrey Ballet, and Charthel Estner of the Gerald Arpino-Robert Joffrey Foundation, and a lecture demo on Marius Petipa choreography, conducted by Alexei Ratmansky of American Ballet Theatre.
Dance instructors may sign up for the 2018 USA IBC Teacher Training Program to be conducted by Victoria Schneider of The HARID Conservatory. For more information on the USA IBC Dance School and Teacher Training Program, visit usaibc.com.
