2017 Healing Hashimoto's Summit Announced
NEW YORK, Oct. 30, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- HeyHashi, the ONLY non-profit that provides a hub of daily connections, monthly webinars and yearly summits for people with Hashimoto's around the world who are seeking wellness in an era of epidemic autoimmunity, has announced its 2017 Healing Hashimoto's Summit will screen free online from November 6th through November 13.
53 million Americans suffer from autoimmune disease, and an estimated 22 million of those people suffer from Hashimoto's Thyroiditis. The Healing Hashimoto's Summit is a comprehensive free-to-screen online event that brings together thyroid health experts, doctors and wellness professionals, nutrition specialists, and prominent figures in the Hashimoto's and autoimmunity communities to give patients the tools they need to manage and ultimately heal the disease.
"A huge part of our mission involves inspiring people to live a symptom-free life," said HeyHashi cofounder Fabienne Heymans, who was driven to help others by her own struggle with the disease. "To do that you need an understanding of the disease, you need an approach that can help you cope with everything involved with Hashimoto's thyroiditis, and you need support as you make all the changes that can promote healing. Our 2017 Summit will be all about next steps - we are diving more deeply into all aspects of healing Hashimoto's: physical, mental, and emotional."
Featured presenters will include internationally-acclaimed functional nutritionist Andrea Nakayama, Autoimmune Wellness founder and author Mickey Trescott, thyroid and brain health expert Dr. Datis Kharrazian, Dr. Izabella Wentz (an expert in clinical pharmacology and lifestyle interventions), and functional naturopathic practitioner Jolene Brighten.
Though tens of millions of people have been diagnosed with Hashimoto's disease, many of these people still have only limited support. Many more go without an official diagnosis for years.
"We call Hashimoto's thyroiditis a 'common yet uncommonly diagnosed' disorder because even though an estimated 8% of the population is hypothyroid and an estimated 90% of that is caused by Hashimoto's," said Pearl Thomas, who cofounded HeyHashi along with Heymans. "Helping people get not only answers but also hope when they're struggling to is a big part of our mission."
Hashimoto's thyroiditis is a progressive autoimmune disease that causes primary hypothyroidism – it was the first disease to be recognized as an autoimmune disease. The most common symptoms include fatigue, weight gain, pale or puffy face, feeling cold, joint and muscle pain, constipation, dry and thinning hair, heavy menstrual flow or irregular periods, depression, panic disorder, a slowed heart rate, and problems getting pregnant and staying pregnant.
The select group of 2017 Healing Hashimoto's Summit sponsors includes Dr. Datis Kharrazian's One to One.
