12-Year-Old Author Writes New Adventure Novel After Not Finding Anything Like It In The Book World
PORTLAND, Ore., Feb. 3, 2018 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Caleb J. Boyer took on a challenge – to write a 200-page novel in under three months, eventually win awards for that adventure novel, have his book shoot to the top of the Bestseller lists, and become a #1 International Bestselling Author. Hard enough for any writer to do, right? Well, there's one more thing - Caleb J. Boyer was only twelve-years-old!
Boyer's book, Island Games: Mystery of the Four Quadrants, published by Lasting Press, has rocketed to the top of the bestseller lists on Amazon. It's the story of two boys, Matthew and Ryan, who wake up on a sandy beach with no memory and realize their only chance of survival is by relying on each other.
"This is an adventure book that is guaranteed to keep readers on edge with unexpected twists and turns," said Boyer. "Making it through their first night not only tests Matthew and Ryan's resolve to survive, but also their friendship."
The story of how a 12-year-old writes a bestselling novel starts with Caleb J. Boyer as a young speed-reader.
"He was actually more of a reader than a writer when he was younger," said his mother, Rachael Boyer. "He became a speed-reader at the age of four and has been reading hundreds of books every year since then, so he has a strong appreciation for great writing and understands the power of storytelling."
In the summer after sixth grade, Boyer went to work on his book. He created an outline quickly, and then let the characters and actions play out as the summer progressed. He wrote something that he would want to read himself.
"I wanted to write a story that I wasn't finding anywhere else in the book world," said Boyer. "Island Games was written to appeal to those who love stories of adventure, teamwork, and perseverance."
Boyer used a daily regimen to write his book. Every day, he would put aside 90 minutes to write. After each chapter, he'd share it with close friends and family, and they would give comments and suggestions as he went along. Soon 10,000 words became 20,000, and eventually, he compiled over 50,000 words for his first novel.
And that's not the only thing Boyer has done. He founded Read-Write, LLC, a company dedicated to instilling youth around the world with a passion for reading, writing, and entrepreneurship. His non-profit wing of the company donates books to children's hospitals so that children can have an adventurous escape as they struggle to overcome their own health challenges.
"My hope is that people of all ages can appreciate the enduring friendship of Matthew and Ryan," continues Boyer, "It's an adventure story, but there's an overwhelmingly positive message throughout that I hope inspires readers in their day-to-day lives."
