Rotten Tomatoes Acquired By Fandango

(RTTNews) - Fandango, owned by Comcast Corp. (CMCSA), has agreed to buy Flixster and Rotten Tomatoes from Warner Bros. Entertainment.

Warner Bros will take a minority stake in Fandango as part of the deal and will serve as an ongoing strategic partner. Fandango will continue to operate as a unit of NBCUniversal.

Flixster and Rotten Tomatoes have a combined monthly unique visitors of about 20 million, while Fandango reached 40.3 million visitors in the US in January, according to comScore data. With this acquisition, Fandango's monthly audience reach will rise to 63 million, a near second to Amazon.com Inc.'s (AMZN) IMDb, which had 73.8 million unique visitors last month.

Flixster and Fandango together have more than 100 million mobile app downloads, according to the companies.

"Flixster and Rotten Tomatoes are invaluable resources for movie fans, and we look forward to growing these successful properties, driving more theatrical ticketing and super-serving consumers with all their movie needs," Fandango President Paul Yanover said in a statement.
