Tyson Foods Recalls 75,320 Pounds Of Chicken Nuggets For Plastic Contamination

(RTTNews) - The U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced Friday that Tyson Foods, Inc. (TSN) has recalled about 75,320 pounds of its frozen, pre-cooked chicken nuggets for plastic contamination.

The company said it discovered small pieces of plastic in the products following an inspection after it received several consumer complaints. The problem was traced to a product scraper inside a blending machine.

The company noted that it has received reports of minor oral injury associated with consumption of these products. However, the USDA FSIS said has received no additional reports of injury or illness from consumption.

The recalled products include 5 pound bags of "Tyson Fully Cooked White Meat Chicken Nuggets - 16142-928? that have "best used by" date of either January 26, 2015 or February 16, 2015. The company added that manufacturer codes "0264SDL0315 to 19? and "0474SDL0311 to 14" can be found on these bags.

The recalled products were produced on January 26, 2014 or February 16, 2014 and shipped to one nationwide warehouse club chain, whose name was not specified.

Additionally, 20 pound bulk packs of "Spare Time Fully Cooked Nugget-Shaped Chicken Breast Pattie Fritters w/ Rib Meat - 16142-861" were also recalled, These products have case codes of "0264SDL0315 to 19? and "0474SDL0311 to 14." They were produced on January 26 and February 16, 2014, and were shipped to Indiana and Arkansas for institutional use.

All these product bags bear the establishment number "P-13556." The USDA FSIS routinely conducts recall effectiveness checks to verify that recalling firms notify their customers of the recall and that steps are taken to make certain that the product is no longer available to consumers.

TSN closed Friday's regular trading session at $41.22, down $0.77 or 1.83% on a volume of 3.63 million shares.
