TSX Hits 2-Month Low On Widespread Losses --- Canadian Commentary
(RTTNews) - Canadian stocks fell Tuesday, driving Toronto's main index to its lowest since July.
Bay Street remained spooked by tumbling oil prices and the prospect of a U.S. interest rate hike.
The S&P/TSX Composite Index plunged 248.04 points, or 1.7 percent, to 14,349.10, with gauges of all major sectors in the red.
Energy stocks were hammered as WTI light sweet crude oil slipped below $45 a barrel.
Among stocks losing significant ground, Horizon North (HNL.TO) and Baytex (BTE.TO) plunged more than 8 percent.
Gold stocks dropped 3 percent, wiping out yesterday's gains.
Blackberry (BB.T) announced new services for its Android Hub+ platform. Shares fell 4 percent.
Potash (POT.TO) lost 2.5 percent as traders continued to frown on the company's merger with Agrium (AGU.TO).
