The White Mountain School Announces John Drew as New Head of School

BETHLEHEM, N.H., Oct. 13, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The White Mountain School has announced the appointment of John Drew, Assistant Head of School and Academic Dean at Concord Academy, as the next Head of School effective July 1, 2019. In making the announcement, Chair of the Board of Trustees, Deborah Lowham said, "The intentionality with which John approached his quest for becoming our next head coupled with his experience, talent, and palpable appreciation for the values that underpin a White Mountain experience has been overwhelmingly exciting. John's appreciation and connection with our natural environment reflects White Mountain's longstanding commitment to appreciation of the grounding power of the mountains and appreciation of things greater than ourselves."

As an educator and administrator, John's educational philosophy aligns with The White Mountains School's mission to prepare and inspire students to lead lives of curiosity, courage and compassion. John states, "I've been looking for a school that is committed to diversity and environmental sustainability, a place that is not just discussing, but actively pursuing new approaches to education, a place with a small enough scale that the word community can have profound meaning. I was moved by how welcoming adults and students were when my wife and I visited campus. The mission of White Mountain is compelling to me -- I want to lead a school that asks us all to be curious, courageous and compassionate."

Allison Letourneau, Associate Head of School for Enrollment Management, in response to the announcement shared, "We are fortunate to have attracted John to The White Mountain School. John has been ready for headship, but was not looking to be a head at any school; John was uniquely and passionately drawn to the values and vision that lead the powerful work we do at White Mountain."

John has served many roles during his 21 year tenure at Concord Academy. He oversaw their New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) self-study and has advanced Concord Academy's Community and Equity initiative. He began his career at the Field School in Washington, D.C. and also served as a science teacher and Director of Summer Academic Programs at Potomac School in McLean, VA. John earned his undergraduate degree from Amherst College and his Master's from Smith College.
