Teamsters At San Francisco International Airport Vote To Strike
SAN FRANCISCO, Jan. 16, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Teamsters employed as auditors, cashiers and office personnel have voted unanimously to reject a final contract offer from the parking facility operator at the San Francisco International Airport (SFO).
"Every worker voted against the company proposal," said Mark Gleason, Secretary-Treasurer of Teamsters Local 665, which represents the 110 workers at SFO's domestic and international parking facility. "There was zero support for the operator's terms."
The union described the primary issue being large increases in out-of-pocket costs or benefit cuts to the workers' health plan.
"These workers are asking that their health benefit package be maintained, and the company proposal clearly jeopardizes that," Gleason said.
The workers authorized a strike and the Teamsters are requesting strike sanction from area Central Labor Councils, but a strike date has not been set yet.
Additionally, union leadership is requesting assistance from regional officials of the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service (FMCS).
The union hopes that contract negotiations could resume during the week of Jan. 16 through 20.
