NASHUA, N.H., Nov. 28, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, Consumers on this Cyber Monday will fill their digital shopping carts in record numbers. Online sales today expect to reach more than $3 billion, and with more than 85 percent of shoppers doing their buying on smartphones, criminals are finding new ways to access people's information.  SnoopWall, Inc., the world's leader at breach prevention has announced the following Consumer Alert:

1) Top downloaded Emoji Keyboards which are third party, not those that came with your smartphone, collect too much information and behave in a highly suspicious manner, like traditional malware known as "Keyloggers" (see: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keystroke_logging).

2) In addition to these high-risk third party Emoji Keyboards, cyber thieves have been building fake shopping sites with the complete shopping experience to steal consumer credit card and other personally identifiable information (PII).  Just this month, Apple has scrubbed over 300 counterfeit shopping apps from iTunes.  Google has claimed to begin the cleanup process and uses special techniques to catch "spammy" developers.

"If it looks too good to be true, it probably is.  Don't click email links today and throughout the entire shopping season.  Visit the websites of companies you trust and follow the links to download their official mobile shopping apps," saidGary Miliefsky, CEO and Co-Founder of SnoopWall, Inc. "In addition, as you can see from our threat report today, it's not worth the risk to install any third party emoji keyboards, especially those top downloaded which are developed by full-time employees of Chinese government owned companies."

As discussed in more detail, these threats were covered by CBS This Morning today, with the full story found online here: http://www.cbsnews.com/news/cyber-monday-fake-shopping-apps-offer-back-door-for-thieves/.

"If you are doing online banking, accessing your mobile bank or credit union, or online shopping, and you have one of these third party emoji keyboards installed, you are risking serious identity theft," said Mark Bermingham, Vice President of SnoopWall, Inc.
