Pervasive Software Delivers Multicore Scalability, Java Performance and Power

Pervasive Software® Inc. (NASDAQ:PVSW), a global value leader in embeddable data management and agile integration software, will demonstrate and discuss updates to its framework for Java developers wanting to tackle the multicore hardware/software divide: Pervasive DataRush™. Since the introduction of Pervasive DataRush at the 2007 JavaOne Conference, greater numbers of affordable 4-, 8- and even 16- or 32-core SMP servers have come to market quickly, leaving software developers even further behind in the effort to capture the full value of multicore power. Pervasive DataRush was designed to help build the next generation of scalable, high-performing applications to crunch through massive data volumes with ease utilizing multicore hardware. "The world is going multicore, but parallel programming skills are thin on the ground. The market is slow to adopt new programming models, and some of the traditional parallel programming tools are (possibly unfairly) seen as old hat,” said John Barr, Research Director with The 451 Group, a technology industry analyst company focused on the business of enterprise IT innovation, in his report. "Pervasive Software’s development of DataRush–a Java framework for highly parallel, data-intensive applications–could be in the right place at the right time.”1 At the 2008 JavaOne Conference: Pervasive Solutions Architect Jim Falgout will speak during AMD’s keynote about Pervasive’s views on the importance of multicore, the benefits of programming in a single address space, and the need to continue to use established development languages–especially highly proliferated ones like Java with fine-grained parallelism and multithreading. The keynote takes place Wednesday, May 7 at 5:30 p.m. PDT in Halls B and C. A hands-on demonstration of Pervasive DataRush will be offered in Pervasive booth 936 at the JavaOne Pavilion. Pervasive will also be demonstrating Pervasive DataRush in AMD’s booth 724. Pervasive representatives will be available to discuss results and conditions from its successful benchmark test of Pervasive DataRush on a 32-core server; the K-means and Levenshtein distance tests recorded near linear scalability for Pervasive DataRush across all 32 cores. In an article published in IT Director and on Concertant’s Website, Bloor Research and Concertant analysts Dr. Peter Dzwig and Dr. Russel Winder write, "DataRush addresses an important issue; the gap between what hardware vendors are promising to deliver by way of MCP hardware (Xeon, Opteron, etc., etc.) and what the software industry is able to deliver in terms of commercial applications to exploit that hardware…. Pervasive has chosen to provide a framework through DataRush that is a functional, dataflow programming model to provide the necessary mapping between the application and the underlying hardware.” Pervasive DataRush gives Java developers a framework to write applications that harness the power of multicore in a scalable and cost-effective way, eliminating the need to rewrite code each time an application is moved to a server with additional cores. Pervasive DataRush enables applications to leverage the benefits of multicore processing while eliminating the costly engineering effort of constantly re-optimizing applications in a fast-evolving hardware environment. As announced on April 3, 2008, Pervasive and PeopleForce jointly designed a powerful, scalable, master data management (MDM) solution which applies fuzzy matching techniques for PIERS Global Intelligence Solutions. PeopleForce noted that the Pervasive DataRush solution seamlessly scaled across all eight cores of its server to deliver significant improvement in data processing performance. Pervasive continues to build momentum by deploying the first Pervasive DataRush customer applications. The company is accepting additional "Lighthouse” beta customers in financial services, healthcare, logistics, and data mining, and will be presenting at Gartner’s Event Processing Summit in Stamford, Conn., chaired by W. Roy Schulte, V.P. Distinguished Analyst at Gartner. About Pervasive DataRush Pervasive DataRush is now available as a free beta download at www.pervasivedatarush.com.
