October Declared Connecticut. Dream It. Do It. Manufacturing Month

EAST HARTFORD, Conn., Sept. 27, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- From discovering career possibilities to learning about new workplace skills, Connecticut's next generation of manufacturers statewide will come together in October for the seventh annual Connecticut. Dream It. Do It. Manufacturing Month.

Licensed and led by the Connecticut Center for Advanced Technology Inc. (CCAT) and financed by the Department of Economic and Community Development's Manufacturing Innovation Fund, Connecticut. Dream It. Do It. is part of The Manufacturing Institute's nationwide manufacturing career awareness campaign to attract the creative, skilled young people needed to grow the industry.

"With a state-of-the-art workforce, Connecticut manufacturers are bringing technological innovation to the market, increasing productivity and growing market share, sales revenue, and profitability," Governor Dannel P. Malloy said in an official proclamation recognizing the importance of the more than 4,000 Connecticut manufacturing companies to the state's economy and to highlight industry career opportunities statewide.

During Manufacturing Month, nearly 400 middle and high school students will participate in two signature Connecticut. Dream It. Do It. events —Manufacturing Mania and Making It Real: Girls & Manufacturing Summit.

More than 200 middle school boys and girls will join in Manufacturing Mania activities on Wednesday, Oct. 17 at the Heritage Hotel & Conference Center on 522 Heritage Road, Southbury, CT.

The program will include displays from manufacturers and higher education institutions, demonstrations, hands-on workshops, team-based competitions, and guest speakers.

Students who attend the Making It Real: Girls & Manufacturing Summit on Wednesday, Oct. 31 at the Red Lion Hotel on 100 Berlin Road, Cromwell, CT will learn about manufacturing through interactive activities and hear from leading women in the industry, who will share their inspiring, personal success stories with the students.

"Connecticut. Dream It. Do It. has done a tremendous job of bringing to light manufacturing careers, promoting STEM and the importance of growing workplace skills," says Sue Palisano, director of education and workforce development for CCAT.

According to Palisano, since 2012 these unique events have introduced nearly 2,500 middle and high school students and teachers to the wide variety of educational and career pathways that today's manufacturing offers.

Exploring made in Connecticut statewide

Manufacturing Month offers activities across the state that showcase the industry. Many manufacturing companies open their doors to the public with tours and open house events. And, Connecticut's technical high schools and community colleges hold special events to introduce their manufacturing programs to prospective students.

"We are seeing great results with Connecticut youth becoming more engaged in manufacturing-themed opportunities thanks to Manufacturing Mania, the Girls Summit and the many initiatives we run with Connecticut. Dream It. Do It.," said Elliot Ginsberg, CEO and President of CCAT. "There remains great opportunity, and we welcome students, educators and our partners to come learn about what is being done to promote manufacturing careers and skill development."
