Investopedia And American Century Investments Hit The Road By Bus To Drive 'Financial Fitness One Mile At A Time'

KANSAS CITY, Mo., Sept. 25, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Financial content website Investopedia and global asset management firm American Century Investments will be hitting the road in a 45-foot tour bus – dubbed "The Financial Coach" – to talk with Middle America about today's most pressing financial issues. From Kansas City to Nashville, Chicago to Columbus, and cities and towns in between, the "Financial Fitness Tour" will engage with Americans who are ready to take control of their financial lives and set themselves on the path to prosperity.

Kicking off on Sept. 28, the tour will feature American Century licensed investment representatives providing free consultations on pocketbook topics such as building a retirement nest egg; saving for college; funding a down payment for a home and other important saving and investing goals.

"Now, more than ever, the need for financial literacy and education is of critical importance. There is so much for consumers to learn when it comes to investing tactics that will help them prepare for their life stages and retirement," said David Siegel, chief executive officer at Investopedia. "More than half of Americans are not invested in the stock market and don't have enough put away for retirement, major life changes or emergencies. Through the Financial Fitness Tour, we hope to shed a light on the different resources that consumers have access to in order to start saving and investing in their futures."

An Investopedia video production crew will document the Financial Fitness Tour and interview people at each stop about financial topics. Videos will be posted to www.financialfitnesstour.com, as well as Investopedia's and American Century's social media platforms.  #TheFinancialCoach is the tour hashtag. The people featured in the videos will be eligible for prizes in a free on-site drawing.

"The thought of achieving long-term financial goals like a comfortable retirement or covering a child's education costs can be daunting, and that leads to procrastination and potential problems down the road," said Jay Hummel, American Century's senior vice president of direct sales and service. "Through this tour, American Century and Investopedia want to help people overcome their fear and complacency so they can get on the path to a more secure and fiscally-sound future. We are driving financial fitness, one mile at a time."

The bus tour kicks off with an afternoon rally on Thursday, Sept. 28 at American Century's headquarters in Kansas City and will make stops in five other cities throughout October. Tour bus visitors can test their financial knowledge and win an Apple Watch or other on-site prizes by taking a Financial Fitness Quiz.  Those taking the quiz and visiting the bus also will be eligible to win a $5,000 travel voucher, with the drawing held at the end of October.  Only one voucher is available, and no purchase is necessary.

Below is the tour schedule:

  • Sept. 28 in Kansas City – Kickoff rally at 3:30 p.m. in parking lot adjacent to American Century Investments headquarters at 4500 Main St.
  • Oct. 2 to Oct. 3 in Nashville – Financial Planning Association Conference at Music City Center
  • Oct. 8 in Chicago – Chicago Marathon
  • Oct. 14 in Bloomington, IndianaIndiana University Homecoming
  • Oct. 15 in Indianapolis, Indiana – Red Bull Air Race Finals at Indianapolis Motor Speedway
  • Oct. 20 in Columbus, Ohio – All-American Quarter Horse Congress Masters

For many of the tour stops, American Century and Investopedia purposely selected high-profile regional events that attract a broad swath of Middle America or tie to the overall themes of saving and investing. For example, the Indiana University visit provides an appropriate backdrop for a discussion about college savings, while the Chicago Marathon underscores the importance of financial and physical fitness, according to Hummel.

"People tend to separate their financial lives from their everyday lives," said Hummel.  "We believe the two areas need to be better integrated, so we are taking the message of financial fitness to the places where people are living their lives."
