Hearst-Argyle Television Launches Additional YouTube Channels

NEW YORK, Nov. 1 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Hearst-Argyle Television, Inc. announced today the launch of 10 additional Hearst-Argyle "Channels" on YouTube, bringing the total of Hearst-Argyle's YouTube channels to 26.

In June 2007 Hearst-Argyle became the first independent TV station group owner to establish a content- and revenue-sharing arrangement with YouTube. As part of that alliance, Hearst-Argyle eventually launched 16 YouTube "Channels" populated with news, weather, sports and entertainment videos as well as with original, local television programming and content from its recently launched social-networking site High School Playbook (http://www.highschoolplaybook.com/).

To date the YouTube Channels have served more than 13 million views of videos including Oklahoma State football coach Mike Gundy's angry news conference appearance (http://youtube.com/watch?v=aoMmbUmKN0E), provided by Hearst-Argyle's KOCO-TV, Oklahoma City; and Sen. John McCain's playful jab at a "little jerk" during a New Hampshire town hall (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F2zx3-0zOPs), provided by Hearst-Argyle's WMUR-TV, Manchester. The KOCO video garnered nearly 500,000 views; the WMUR video, nearly 350,000.

"Our YouTube partnership has been an important part of our vision -- which is to significantly expand distribution for our content and to broaden our reach beyond the boundaries of our media markets," said Terry Mackin, Executive Vice President of Hearst-Argyle Television. "We're thrilled about the progress we've achieved."

Hearst-Argyle's digital multimedia efforts encompass the web and the digital broadcast spectrum. A majority of the websites operated by Hearst- Argyle stations are consistently ranked No.1 within their respective markets. Generating in excess of 1.5 billion page views each year across the network, the sites are at the leading edge in providing wireless application protocol (WAP) content, podcasts, web-based newscasts, web video, and blogs in a broad cross-section of markets.
