GoPro Sued By Polaroid Cube Maker: WSJ

(RTTNews) - C&A Marketing, the maker of Polaroid's Cube camera, is reportedly suing GoPro for allegedly infringing its patent for cube-shaped cameras.

Ridgefield, New Jersey-based C&A Marketing has filed a lawsuit against GoPro claiming that the company's Hero4 Session is a copy of its Polaroid Cube, according to a Wall Street Journal report. The Hero4 Session was launched in July, about 18 months after the Polaroid Cube.

C&A Marketing is seeking all of GoPro's profits from sales of Hero4 Session, plus interest and attorney fees.

Meanwhile, GoPro said several of its EU patents for Hero4 Session were all issued in March, indicating that GoPro was working on Hero4 Session before the competitor filed for its patent. The company said it is still awaiting a U.S. patent for the Session that it applied last year.

The Polaroid Cube and GoPro Hero4 Session almost look alike as both are approximate cubes with rounded corners. Both have a camera lens on the front side and large control button on the top.

Last week, GoPro reported a weak results for the third quarter despite revenue growth of over 40 percent.
