Clade Launches Its Inaugural Online Members-Only Art Exhibition, Featuring Nate Lowman In Collaboration With Maccarone Gallery

NEW YORK, Feb. 20, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Clade, a private digital community for the world's wealthiest investors and philanthropists, is proud to announce the launch of its private, online art space exclusively for its members.  For its kick-off show entitled "Passing the Torch", Clade is presenting the artist Nate Lowman in partnership with Maccarone, a leading contemporary art gallery located in New York City and Los Angeles.  Clade and Maccarone are showing a selection of Nate Lowman's most iconic works side-by-side with important 20th century masterpieces by Andy Warhol, John Baldessari, Cindy Sherman, Jackson Pollock, and more.

Known for his reflections on the intrinsic themes in contemporary culture, Lowman pays homage to the legacy of Modernist painters. His works will be featured on the Clade platform, giving members an intimate, 'back room' gallery experience digitally. Clade is already successfully re-inventing the traditional private investment model for its membership, and strives to continually enhance its members' experience with a wide variety of strategic partnerships across related sectors. With the first of these collaborations, Clade provides a new, fresh way for its private, global community to discover and acquire art.

"Passing the Torch" is being shown from February 7th to March 15th, 2018.  Following the exhibition, Clade will be collaborating with other global art galleries on a rotating basis to continue to bring its members access to leading artists and art works.

Jonathan Lipton, Clade's CEO said: "Many of our members are major collectors, and they suggested we use Clade to offer them art online privately.  So we broke some glass, and created an alternative to the analog private sales and gallery model." Lipton continued: "The art world has become increasingly transient, with collectors in perpetual motion.  Clade provides its members with access to the most sought after works, at their convenience, and without having to spend the day fighting traffic."

"Michele is one of the most forward-thinking gallerists in the business.  We are beyond excited to be working with both her and Nate."

Lowman's longtime gallerist, Michele Maccarone, says of the partnership, "The way we view and consume art is constantly evolving, so when Clade first approached me about bringing private 'back-room' gallerist and collector conversations online, I immediately thought of Nate, an artist whose complex and layered relationship to contemporary culture and history is worth an in-depth discussion."

"Through this visual compilation, I hope to illuminate such direct comparisons between works of Nate's and the legacies of 20th century American linchpins, respective artists from which he pulls but does not derive. Partnering with Clade presents me with the unique opportunity to illustrate Nate's work against 20th century masterpieces. The virtual world makes this reality possible of a group show that could exist in no other context."

About Maccarone
Maccarone began in 2001 at 45 Canal Street, a pioneering project space that catalyzed the emergence of the Lower East Side gallery scene. Since then, Maccarone Gallery has grown significantly, opening a 6,000-square-foot space at 630 Greenwich Street in the West Village, and expanding that venue to include a second 4,000-square-foot adjacent space in 2012. In September 2015, Maccarone Los Angeles, a 32,000-square-foot complex at 300 South Mission Road in the Downtown Arts District, opened to the public.

Maccarone represents nearly two-dozen artists and estates internationally, including Carol Bove, the Estate of Sarah Charlesworth, Chivas Clem, Ann Craven, Alex Da Corte, John Divola, Eli Hansen, Alex Hubbard, Rosy Keyser, Eva Koťátková, Phanos Kyriacou, David Lamelas, Paul Lee, Hanna Liden, Nate Lowman, Corey McCorkle, Danny McDonald, Rodney McMillian, Otto Mühl, Claudia & Julia Müller, Daniel Roth, Ryan Sullivan, Ricky Swallow, and Oscar Tuazon. The gallery has long been recognized for its support of young artists, while maintaining its inherent interest in exhibiting important historical artists, and for presenting rigorous projects, performances and lectures within in its annual program.

About Nate Lowman
Nate Lowman was born in 1979 in Las Vegas and received a BS from New York University in 2001, he has lived and worked in New York ever since. His work employs strategies of collage and appropriation, often incorporating and manipulating contemporary visual elements and artifacts such as graffiti, print media, and bumper stickers. The resulting critique of culture reflects on issues such as the cult of celebrity, material consumption, and violence.

An emphasis on the history of modern art is often present within his work. While his practice is deeply conceptual, he regularly deconstructs and examines the techniques and formal elements of modernist painters developing his own signature style while paying homage to the legacy of American painting. Comparably to some of his predecessors he holds an interest in presenting discernable images through ideological rather than realistic terms. An example of this being his use of brand images to create shaped canvases, a moniker of his practice.

Lowman also works in installation, where the individual parts of his diverse practice commune in an immersive environment. This method of exhibiting his work further investigates the presence of consumer and pop images in the American landscape.

Nate Lowman's work has been represented in significant solo exhibitions, including the FRAC Champagne-Ardenne, Reims, France (2016), Brant Foundation, Greenwich, Connecticut (2012), The American Academy, Rome, Italy (2011), and the Astrup Fearnley, Oslo, Norway (2009), among others. He has participated in dozens of group shows at numerous institutions, including P.S.1/MOMA, The Serpentine Gallery, The New Museum, The Guggenheim, and Palais de Tokyo. Nate Lowman: Before and After is currently on view at the Aspen Art Museum through June 10, 2018.
