Are You Worried About Memory Loss? Now You Can Find Out Your Risk For "Cognitive Decline," Which Can Be Associated With Diseases Like Alzheimer's
REDWOOD CITY, Calif., Dec. 1, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Neurotrack, a digital health company focused on the early detection of cognitive decline and prevention of diseases like Alzheimer's, today announced the general availability of its Imprint™ Check-Up. Previously, the assessment was only available through clinical studies or by special invitation. Now, by going straight to consumers, the company wants to ensure that anyone, anywhere, can take the first steps to protect their brain health as they grow older.
"As we age, we obsess over wrinkles, age spots and blemishes. In fact, every year, consumers spend more than $2 billion dollars on anti-aging skincare. But our minds age as well, and now we're making it possible to monitor your memory and take care of your brain," said Elli Kaplan, CEO and co-founder of Neurotrack. "Many people don't realize that you can slow the rate at which your brain ages through lifestyle changes such as diet, exercise, getting enough sleep, stress reduction, and brain games."
Based on more than 30 years of scientific research, the Imprint Check-Up provides people with a baseline measurement of their memory health, which can then be used to track any changes as the individual ages. Candidates for the assessment include:
- Anyone over the age of 50;
- Anyone experiencing symptoms of memory loss;
- Anyone with a family history of dementia or Alzheimer's Disease.
People can take the five-minute check-up from the comfort of their own home, as long as they have a computer with an internet connection and a webcam. The assessment is quick, non-invasive, private, and free.
The Imprint Check-Up is a digital assessment used to identify people who are at risk for cognitive decline. The five minute, web-based assessment measures the health of the hippocampus, the first part of the brain to be impacted by Alzheimer's disease. By tracking, then analyzing the eye movements of a person while he or she looks at a series of images, the Imprint Check-Up measures declarative memory. Declarative memory describes "everyday memory," which is the ability to remember things like where you parked your car, where you put your keys and what time you need to arrive at work.The test is used to establish a baseline – on a scale of 1 to 100 – that allows for future assessment and prediction of cognitive decline over time.
After taking the Imprint Check-Up assessment, individuals receive:
- Detailed results including their Memory Score;
- Information, advice and recommendations for improving their brain health;
- An invitation to a private Facebook group that provides a supportive environment for anyone seeking to improve or maintain their brain health.
"Our vision at Neurotrack is to educate and empower people to take control of, and care for, their brain health. Testing for early detection of cognitive decline should be a part of everyone's annual checkup and health routine," said Elli Kaplan. "We already do this for diabetes, heart disease, colon and skin cancer, among others; it's crucial that we begin testing for brain health now that we have the technology to do so."
"I want to let my patients know they aren't helpless. There is a perception that once you have early onset memory loss there is nothing you can do about it," said Douglas Swanson, M.D., a family medicine specialist in Colorado Springs, Colo. "I'll use the results of the Imprint Check-up to make recommendations and help patients have a better, healthier life."
