Airbus Outperforms Boeing At Paris Air Show
(RTTNews) - A last day order for 110 A321neo aircraft from Hungarian low cost carrier Wizz Air helped Airbus Group SE defeat Boeing Co. (BA) in the race for the most orders won at the 2015 Paris Air Show.
Toulouse-France-based Airbus received firm orders and commitments for 421 Airbus aircraft worth more than $57 billion during the show, compared to Chicago, Illinois-based Boeing's 331 airplanes valued at $50.2 billion.
John Leahy, Airbus' Chief Operating Officer, Customers said, "Our latest forecast for 32,600 planes in the next 20 years is being proved correct. The orders and commitments at this year's Paris Air Show demonstrate three things; Asia is powering the growth, we are leading in single-aisle and widebody and our A321neo is the aircraft of choice in the middle of the market."
The European plane maker's tally includes firm orders for 124 aircraft worth $16.3 billion and commitments for 297 aircraft worth $40.7 billion. For the American aerospace giant, 145 are firm orders worth $18.6 billion and the rest are either commitments or orders that were already in Boeing's order book from unidentified customers.
Airbus won orders & commitments worth $15.6 billion for its wide body aircraft, comprising 31 A350-900s, 20 A330 Regional and four A330-300s. The company's popular single-aisle A320 Family garnered an impressive 366 deals worth $41.4 billion, comprising 103 firm orders and 263 commitments.
For Boeing, the largest order came from Dutch leasing company AerCap for 100 737 MAX 8 planes, worth up to $10.7 billion. Indonesian flag carrier Garuda has also made commitments to buy 30 787-9 Dreamliner and 30 737 MAX 8s valued at $10.9 billion.
Boeing has projected a global demand for 38,050 new airplanes over the next 20 years, while Airbus has projected a demand for 32,600 planes worldwide during the same period.
